ame research and development residency with Anne-F Jacques (July 1st update)

ame has invited three musicians / sound artists to take up research and development residencies during the lock-down. The second to introduce here is Anne-F Jacques from Montreal. She was to spend her early summer at Dai Hall focusing on collaboration and translation of media, working and performing with Julia Eckhardt (Belguim), Tania Carolina Chen (USA), Tim Shaw (UK), Phil Niblock (USA), Ryoko Akama (Japan) and Yorkshire Sound Women Network. Now, these ambitions plans were cancelled, she has decided to concentrate on her studio time for the next few months to create something ‘new’. 

I hate running and I have never baked anything in my life. So while venues, galleries and festivals are shut down, I amplify pieces of cork and rocks, pine needles and PVC cuttings. Knowing that the next public presentation for an audience other than pigeons is months away, I can experiment with always more precarious contraptions; while being in “residency” at ame gives me the precious sense that no matter how absurd these research are, some human beings on another continent are, somehow, waiting to hear from them. I would like to share three short video clips from my studio.

Anne-F Jacques : is a sound artist based in Montreal, Canada. She is interested in amplification, oblique interactions between materials and construction of various contraptions and idiosyncratic systems. Her particular focus is on low technology, trivial objects and unpolished sounds. She has presented several sound installations and live performances in North and South America, Europe and Japan. Anne-F is also involved with Crustacés Tapes, a postal sound distribution project.
