roam artist of the week: introducing a.hop

The fourth roam festival artist of the week is in fact a group rather than a single artist. a.hop is an international band formed during the lock-down.

They perform and improvise think-outside-the-box ideas and compositions.

a.hop, which is the word for ‘nine’ in Korean, is comprised of Anne-F Jacques, Bonnie Jones, Elizabeth Millar, Liew Niyomkarn, Lynette Quek, Ryoko Akama, suzueri, Valentina Villarroel and Veronica Cerrotta. The band emerged for their first appearance at the audiograft festival in 2021. This was followed by their continuous collaboration for Radio Tsonami and Museo del Estallido Social. Their first album FIRST ALBUM is recently released from Superpang label.

They enjoy making absurd and inspirational video pieces. Apparently, they don’t discuss much regarding the pieces they create. They have a mutual trust and are happy to be constantly surprised by each other’s responses to an idea.
This time is no different. They will present two scores by Anne-F Jacques and Liew Niyomkarn – doubts about gravity and Walk Ground Walk as video installations at dai hall downstairs. For the first time, nine a.hop members appear in the same space! a.hop wonders if there will ever be an opportunity for the nine-piece-band to be invited to get together in person. As most of them have never met each other, that will be their next dream.
